In order to remain compliant with NSW COVID-19 legislation, business establishments such as cafes, pubs, clubs, casinos, restaurants and indoor gyms are required to have a dedicated COVID-19 Safe Hygiene Marshal whose sole job is to ensure that the COVID-19 Safety Plan is properly implemented and maintained.
Venues with a capacity of 250 patrons or more are required to have a Safe Hygiene Marshal at all times while operational. Meanwhile, venues with a capacity of less than 250 patrons only need a safety marshal during peak operational hours (12pm to 3pm, 5pm to 9pm, and other peak periods).

Do take note that penalties of up to $55,000 will apply for breaching Public Health Orders, with a further $27,500 for each day an offence continues unremedied. Businesses may be closed down for up to a month for repeated non-compliance.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) marshals work with other venue staff to ensure RSA compliance is upheld.
Their responsibilities include engaging with patrons and staff to encourage responsible liquor consumption, supporting venue staff in upholding RSA practices, observing patrons to identify irresponsible drinking behaviours, providing a visual presence to patrons and support for bar staff, watching out for signs of undue intoxication from patrons, and more.
